Nearby, approximately 3 kilometres from Azat-Chatenet there are horse riding stables that speak good English. They can give lessons on horses and ponies or go trekking in the beautiful Creuse countryside and have been recommended by some of our clients. For family days out attractions on the outskirts of Guéret include; the Chambrières Wolf Park 'Les Loups de Chabrières' where you can observe the wolves in their natural forest environment and the Giant Maze 'Labyrinthe Géant' the world's largest permanent maze; 4.5km of green hedges and walkways.
Creuse is very picturesque, it's beautiful wild landscape has attracted many artists including famous impressionist painters such as Monet and Armand Guillaumin. In the 1880s Monet painted a series of canvases in Fresselines, many artists regularly visited the village of Crozant and surrounding areas in the north-west, coming to paint in the deep river valley and gorges of the Creuse River. The area between Fresselines and Crozant became known as The Valley of The Painters, and is still popular with artists today. For a wondeful view of the gorge cliff faces and ruins of the medieval fortress above take a relaxing pleasure boat trip from the Restaurant du Lac, where you can book a meal followed by a boat trip or just the boat trip - a lovely day out.
